Photomedicine and Low Level Laser Therapy

Did you know Low Level Laser Therapy has been used as treatment since the 1970’s. In the late 60’s Endre Mester found he could stimulate wound healing in mice with Laser. From this discovery he began working on human patients and used lasers to treat non-healing ulcers. Low Level Laser has now been developed into a therapeutic procedure that may be able to help with many ailments.

Low Level Laser Therapy is very popular in Europe and Asia. It has not been so widespread in the western part of the world however slowly this may change as the benefits and healing potentials the Low Level Laser has is quite second to none.

The low level laser treatments we do in the clinic are pain free, and often clients find them very relaxing. Results may happen very quickly whether that be for wound healing, post operative care, or for pain relief and swelling.

“LLLT for Wound Healing. Cells in the wound respond to light induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to the expression of growth factors, such as transforming growth factor beta (TGF), and platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), which encourage synthesis of more collagen, increased formation of blood vessels, and less inflammation, all of which increase wound healing. “ Basic Photomedicine, American Society for Photobiology.
